MULHOLLAND DEMANDS ACTION FROM PRIME MINISTER ON DEPORTATIONS

In Prime Minister's Questions today Greg Mulholland, MP for Leeds North West, called upon the Prime Minister Gordon Brown to prevent asylum seekers from being deported to countries where they face serious risk of persecution as a result of their religious beliefs or sexual preference.

VICTORY IN CAMPAIGN TO SPARE MAN FROM DEPORTATION TO BRUTAL IRANIAN REGIME

Greg Mulholland, MP for Leeds North West, has expressed his delight at the news that Mr Ali Pourakaberian has escaped deportation to Iran - where he faces appalling persecution and torture as a result of his religious beliefs - at the eleventh hour, following a local campaign to call on the Government to allow him to remain. Mr Pourakaberian was due to be deported tomorrow.

The Chancellor, Alistair Darling, has ignored calls by charities, politicians and families with severely disabled children under the age of 5 to extend winter fuel payments to cover these children in his budget announcement.

IN BUDGET NEXT WEEK GIVE FAMILIES WITH DISABLED CHILDREN HELP THEY NEED TO STAY WARM IN WINTER- MULHOLLAND

Greg Mulholland, MP for Leeds North West, has tabled a motion in the House of Commons calling for the Government to extend Winter Fuel Payments to families with severely disabled children under 5, to help them keep warm and free of illness in the winter months.

Leeds MP and Vice-Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Rugby League, Greg Mulholland, has tabled an Early Day Motion in Parliament recognising and commending Leeds Rhinos' superb victory in the Carnegie World Club Challenge over Australian Rugby League Champions Melbourne Storm at the weekend, and their crowning as best rugby league side in the world.
