Greg Mulholland MP; your local champion in Westminster.

Greg Mulholland is the Liberal Democrat MP for Leeds North West.

He entered Parliament after winning the seat from Labour at the 2005 General Election. He lives here in the constituency with his wife Raegan and his daughters Isabel and Madeleine.

Before he was elected to Parliament he was already a councillor in Leeds North West for Headingley ward. Whilst on the Council Greg was Lead Member for Leeds City Council Corporate Services.

In Parliament, Greg is the Liberal Democrat Older People's Spokesperson on the health team standing-up for older people and he has championed issues like standards in care homes, end of life care and hospices, for more funding for dementia research and extending avaliability treatment for conditions like cancer. He has been at the forefront of the campaign to increase the number of local NHS dentists and has begun a parliamentary campaign to make severely disabled people eligible for the winter fuel allowance.

Greg is also part of several all-party groups including being vice-chair of the balanced and sustainable communities group and rugby league group as well as being a member of others including the small shops group, the group on dementia, the CAFOD group and the Post Office group.

In November 2005, he proposed the Sale of Green Belt Land bill to prevent 'land banking' - companies speculating in Green Belt land. He has also tabled Parliamentary Motions on a huge variety of subjects including winter fuel payments for the severely disabled under 60 and biometric data collection in schools. In 2008 Greg introduced his Wine Glass Measures Bill to give wine drinkers better choice of wine glass sizes, so that smaller measures would be avaliable as well as the much larger sizes that are often the thing on offer. The Government announced that it planned to introduce the bill and the Home Secretary agreed to meet with Greg to discuss this.

Also last year, at Prime Ministers Questions, Greg got Prime Minister Gordon Brown to agree to meet with him, the author Terry Prachett and representatives from the Alzheimer's Research Trust to discuss unacceptably low levels of funding for dementia research.

In 2007, Greg was nominated for best Campaigning Politician of Year in the Channel 4 Political Awards for helping to secure the release of Mirza Tahir Hussain from death row in Pakistan.

Locally, Greg has also led a campaign in support of the Wharfedale Hospital in Otley. After one ward was closed, Greg held public meetings and encouraged the people of Otley to sign his petition calling for an end to further cuts. Greg played a key role in the "Children's Hospital for Leeds" campaign and took the issue to the very top questioning the then Prime Minister Tony Blair over the issue and secured a parliamentary debate on this issue.

Greg has also been active in working with the Police and local groups to cut crime and anti-social behaviour. He campaigned successfully against the downgrading of Otley Police Station in 2006.

Greg is very active in his Leeds North West Constituency. Greg regularly, visits schools, local groups and residents associations. His 'mini parliaments' in schools are very popular and he also encourages groups and schools to visit him in Parliament.

Greg holds at least seven scheduled surgeries every month, more than any previous Leeds North West MP as well as special surgeries which have been held in community centres and also caravan parks and pubs.

He also works hard to promote local charities such as Kids in Kampz and Leeds Youth Opera - both of which he is a patron of.
