Greg Mulholland MP

Greg Mulholland is the Lib Dem MP for Leeds North West. He entered Parliament after winning the seat from Labour at the 2005 General Election. He lives in Otley with his wife Raegan and his daughter Isabel.

Before he was elected to Parliament Greg worked in marketing until he became a councillor for the Headingley ward in the Leeds North West Constituency. Whilst on the Council Greg was Lead Member for Leeds City Council Corporate Services.

In Parliament, Greg is the Liberal Democrat shadow Health and Older people's spokesperson and he is also a member of the work and Pensions select committee. Greg is also part of several all-party groups including sustainable communities and small shops group.

In November 2005, he proposed the Sale of Green Belt Land bill to prevent 'land banking' - companies speculating in Green Belt land. He has also tabled Parliamentary Motions on a variety of subjects including support for small breweries, winter fuel payments for the severely disabled under 60, and biometric data collection in schools

In 2007, he was nominated for best campaigning politician in the Channel 4 Political Awards for helping to secure the release of Mirza Tahir Hussain from prison in Pakistan.

Greg has also led a campaign in support of the Wharfedale Hospital in Otley. After one ward was closed, Greg held public meetings and encouraged the people of Otley to sign his petition calling for an end to further cuts. Greg is also instrumental in the "Children's Hospital for Leeds" campaign. He took the issue to the very top questioning the then Prime Minister Tony Blair over the issue and secured Parliamentary debates to discuss the importance of the proposed Hospital. At a national level and in his capacity as Liberal Democrat Health spokesperson Greg has embedded himself at the forefront of the campaign to increase the number of local NHS dentists. He has also begun a Parliamentary campaign to make disabled people eligible for the winter fuel allowance.

Greg has also been active working with the Police and local groups to cut crime and anti-social behaviour. He campaigned successfully against the downgrading of Otley Police Station in 2006 and also held a public meeting on anti-social behaviour.

Greg is a very active in his Leeds North West Constituency. Greg regularly, visits schools, local groups and residents associations. He holds seven surgeries every month - a record for a Leeds North West MP. When parliamentary time allows Greg also holds special surgeries these have been held in Caravan parks, Pubs and village halls. He also works hard to promote local charities such as Kids in Kampz and Leeds Youth Opera - both of which he is a patron.

Away from Politics, he watches Leeds Rhinos Rugby League and Otley Rugby Union when he gets the chance as well as hillwalking and a pint of Real Ale!
