"Carlsberg must come clean about Tetley's Job Losses" Mulholland

1.00.00pm GMT Thu 4th Mar 2010

Greg Mulholland, MP for Leeds North West, has written to Carlsberg asking for the company to declare how many jobs will be lost after the announcement yesterday, it was officially announced by Carlsberg that the Tetley's brewery will be closed after 188 years of production in Leeds.

Greg has written to Mr. Isaac Sheps, CEO of the Carlsberg UK Ltd, requested to know the answer to three specific questions; of those people currently employed, how many jobs will be lost in the process of moving production and closing the brewery, when these jobs will cease and if any new jobs will be created as a result of moving production.

Greg has started a boycott of Carlsberg, which has gained considerable support in Leeds.

Greg said:

"This news is extremely bad for the city of Leeds and especially for the hard working people who work at the brewery.

"Tetley's has greatly contributed to the area of Leeds and offered considerable employment to the local community.

"I hope that Carlsberg will be honest and open about the affect their decision will have on the people of Leeds."
