Mulholland Hopes Council Will Go 'All the Way'

5.26.00am GMT Wed 20th Jan 2010

Leeds City Council has finally decided to reduce the speed limit on residential street Moorland Road and local MP Greg Mulholland has taken the opportunity to welcome this news.

Concerned residents of Moorland Road and Occupation Lane have today attended a deputation in front of full council to put their concerns across.

Greg is disappointed however that the proposals from the Council only cover the part of the road which is most heavily occupied leaving the unrestricted speed limit on the other section of the road which is still used by residents.

Commenting Greg said:

"The residents of Moorland Road, Occupation Lane and I have worked long and hard to get the speed limit on Moorland Road reduced, so this is great news.

"At one point we were so desperate for change that we staged a protest, replacing unrestricted road signs with 30mph made at home by the kids of the area.

"The change is going to cost £5,800 and for an extra £607 they could cover the whole road, that doesn't seem a great deal of money for the future safety of residents and I hope that they will reconsider the decision.
