Mulholland Leads calls for a Debate on the Future of the Care Quality Commission

6.26.00pm GMT Thu 3rd Dec 2009

Greg Mulholland, MP for Leeds North West demanded a debate on the future of the Care Quality Commission during Business Questions today.

Greg has been critical of the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following their response to a leaked report containing damning criticism of the Eccleshill Treatment Centre in Bradford.

Speaking only seconds after his Liberal Democrat colleague Lynne Featherstone, who had also voiced concerns about the integrity of the CQC.

Greg Commented:

"It is hugely important that an organisation like the Care Quality Commission is held properly to account.

"This organisation has made some very high profile errors and yet it seems the Government are reluctant to hold them to account.

"We need a debate on the issue of the CQC and to ensure that the regulators are themselves properly regulated.
