"The World Cup will be a fantastic boost to the whole economy, and it is vital that the benefits are felt in Yorkshire.
"I have called on Parliament to back Leeds United's efforts to secure World Cup Football at Elland Road. As one of the UK's biggest cities, it is essential that Leeds is at the forefront of the bid.
"In Euro '96 we saw football come home to Leeds; in 2012 I want to see the same spirit. The World Cup at Elland Road will bring vital tourism and investment to Leeds and the wider region."
