MULHOLLAND PRESSES GOVERNMENT ON FOREIGN POLICY

11.46.00am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 1st Jul 2009

At Foreign and Commonwealth Office Questions in Parliament yesterday Greg Mulholland, MP for Leeds North West, questioned the Government on the situation at the Burma-Thailand border.

Highlighting the political turmoil at the border which has caused difficulty in getting much-needed aid through, Greg asked what work the UK Government had done with both the Thai and Burma authorities to resolve the situation.

Greg commented;

"This is an important issue, ensuring that the aid is getting through to the people who need it so desperately.

This matter was brought to my attention by the local charity Kidz in Kampz who do an excellent job supporting the educational and welfare needs of displaced children who have witnessed terrible oppression at the hands of the brutal Burmese regime.

The Government must do all it can to work with the Thai authorities to protect these vulnerable children from further suffering."
