MULHOLLAND FIGHTS FOR CLAMP DOWN ON STREET PEDDLERS

4.00.00pm GMT Mon 17th Nov 2008

Greg Mulholland, MP for Leeds North West, has called for a clamp down on street peddlers during a debate in the House of Commons yesterday, which focused on the problem in Leeds and other metropolitan areas.

In his intervention in the debate, Greg specifically highlighted the problems faced by the Otley Victorian Fayre and the problems that it faces with unwanted street traders.

Commenting Greg said:

"I was pleased to have the chance to raise this important issue in the House.

"Wonderful events like the Otley Victorian Fayre, one of the highlights of the town's festival programme, are blighted too often by unwanted street traders.

"This new law would enable the council and the police to take action to prevent this, and allow events such as the Fayre to flourish."
