GREG MULHOLLAND COMMENTS REGARDING LEEDS GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL SITE PLANNING APPLICATION

1.21.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 21st Jul 2008

Leeds Girls High School have announced plans which involve a mixture of apartments and housing on the the whole of the Leeds Girls High School site. This includes keeping the original school building as well as new build on other parts of the site.

The planning application includes building on the protected playing pitches BUT the application excludes

  • The Ford House Garden site from the overall application

  • The Victoria Road Sports Centre from the application

In the past it was proposed to give the Ford House Garden Site to the Council as a public park - There is no mention of this any more. Because there is no mention of the Sports Centre in the planning applications there are concerns that it will not in future be open to the public.

Greg said "This is very disappointing. The Grammar School at Leeds have failed to listen to or work with the community."

"They have ignored genuine offers to sit down with Headingley residents and representatives and instead have ploughed on simply trying to maximise the revenue they can can get from this site regardless of the needs of local people."

"I will continue to work with residents and councillors and we will fight this tooth and nail to have this unacceptable set of plans thrown out".
