MULHOLLAND BACKS WALK TO SCHOOL WEEK

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 23rd May 2008

Greg Mulholland, MP for Leeds North West today backed the Walk to School Week initiative by joining St Jospeh's Primary School pupils on their way into school. The Week is an initiative set up by living streets, a charity that campaign for pedestrians.

Greg said "I think the Walk to School Week initiative is an excellent idea. The Pupils had a really good time and they obviously enjoyed walking to school. It is vital that we encourage children to be more active and getting them to walk to school whenever possible is a really good way of doing this.

Studies have shown that children who walk to school are more likely to be healthy and they also tend to perform better academically."
