12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 19th Feb 2008
Commenting following in a debate on Government funding to Leeds, called by the MP for Leeds East, George Mudie, MP for Leeds North West, Greg Mulholland, said all of Leeds was united in their criticism for a funding deal which will mean that Leeds will miss out on millions of pounds over the coming years.
Mr Mulholland said:
"Those elected to represent the people of Leeds of all parties, at every level, from Councillors to MPs in Parliament, are united - this deal is unfair, unacceptable, and will have a huge impact on the city.
"The loss of this funding will affect some of the poorest communities in Leeds, and the future for excellent schemes which have worked with these communities looks very bleak.
"If they didn't know it before, then following today's debate the Government is now aware of the strength of feeling in the city against these plans. It must urgently re-examine this issue and come up with a deal that is fair to the people of Leeds."
