Lib Dem Support for Fairtrade Continues

12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 24th Sep 2004

Following on from their support for last year's Council White Paper motion to make Leeds a 'Fairtrade City', Liberal Democrats on Leeds City Council are delighted to see many of the Council's cafes and restaurants stocking Fairtrade tea and coffee.

Cllr David Morton, Executive Board Member responsible for the Council's catering outlets, said "The Council Lib Dem Group supported the move last year to make Leeds a 'Fairtrade City' in order to support producers in developing countries and we'll continue to back Fairtrade initiatives wherever we can."

"The Council now provides Fairtrade products in a number of its cafes. To celebrate this, and to encourage people to use them, free cups of Fairtrade tea and coffee will be given away with any purchase made on 29th September between 10am and 2pm. As well as trying out Fairtrade products, people can enjoy some excellent Council-run cafes and restaurants at the same time."

The Liberal Democrats have two members of the Leeds Fair Trade Steering Group. Cllr Greg Mulholland (Headingley) & Cllr Ryk Downes (Otley & Yeadon)
