Booze Restriction A Welcome Tonic Say Lib Dem Councillors

12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 17th Dec 2004

Responding to this week's Exec Board announcement that proposals for restrictions on licensed premises in the City Centre, Headingley and the A660 Woodhouse Corridor have been approved, Councillor Hamilton (Lib Dem, Headingley) who is Chair of the Inner North West Area Committee commented:

"This is welcome news, by approving these proposals the Council is showing it is willing to listen to the concerns of the local residents, Ward Councillors and interested parties such as the Police and the Inner North West Area Committee. The problems faced in the City Centre, Headingley and the A660 Woodhouse Corridor mean these areas warrant being treated as a special case."

Councillor Greg Mulholland of the Headingley Ward added: "Headingley residents have made it repeatedly clear that they don't want anymore late night drinking establishments. The introduction of this new licensing policy will go some way to reducing the problems caused by noise, litter and general disruption by drinkers in what is still a residential area."
