HEADINGLEY COUNCILLORS ORGANISE MEETING ABOUT THE LOUNGE CINEMA

12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 1st Feb 2005

Headingley Councillors have responded to the public outcry over the closure of the Lounge Cinema by organising a public meeting to talk about the impact of the closure and also to discuss what might happen to the building in the future.

Says Cllr Greg Mulholland, "Such has been the outrage in Headingley that we felt it was important to give local people the chance the have their say and vent their understandable anger at this. We also are all concerned about what might happen to the site so we have asked representatives from the Council's planning and licensing Departments to attend so everyone can be clear on what could and could not be done with the building."

Associated Tower Cinemas have also been invited to send a representative and the Councillors are hoping to hear from them about their plans for the site.

The other thing that will be on the agenda is the future of The Lounge's sister cinema, Cottage Road.

Says Cllr Mulholland, "People are fearing worst about Cottage Road and clearly it would be a devastating double whammy if this was to go the same way as the Lounge, so we will be asking Associated Tower Cinemas for assurances about its future".
