LIB DEM PRESIDENT IN OTLEY

12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 8th Mar 2005

President of the Liberal Democrats, Simon Hughes MP visited Otley on Sunday to support the party's campaign in Leeds North West. He joined candidate Cllr Greg Mulholland as they both went out with a team of supporters knocking on doors in the town.

Commenting on his visit, Mr Hughes said, "Otley is a fine Yorkshire town with a proud Liberal history and it was great to be back here and on such a fine day!"

Greg added "We are getting a great reception on the doorstep and it was a real boost to have the Party President out and about with us".

Greg added, "Simon has been a wonderful constituency MP and I hope to emulate him. Like Simon, any good MP must listen to local people and stand up for them on the issues that matter to them and that is exactly what I intend to do".

Simon Hughes concluded, "This general election in Leeds North West is going to be one of the closest for many years. It is great that Otley has 3 hardworking Lib Dem Councillors and I am confident that it will have a Lib Dem MP come the general election."
