MP FOR LEEDS NORTH WEST STEPS DOWN FROM COUNCIL TO CONCENTRATE ON NEW ROLE12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 22nd Jun 2005 This week, Greg Mulholland, Member of Parliament for Leeds North West has stepped down from his position on Leeds City Council. Since winning his Parliamentary seat on May 5th, Greg has carried out both roles attending all full council meetings and other meetings locally while also speaking in the House of Commons. Though all MPs split their working week between Westminster and their constituencies, Greg has decided that it is now time to give his full attention to his new role. Commenting on his decision Greg said: "I had many things to do in the last few weeks to ensure that things I was involved in as a councillor did not fall by the wayside and having done this, I feel it's time to give my full attention to my new role. "I have continued to work for constituents in Headingley as their councillor as well as their MP as well as continuing to act as Leeds District Spokesperson for Metro, a very important role with the Supertram decision imminent and I shall continue the fight for it in my new position. "My Headingley colleagues Cllr David Morton & Cllr Martin continue to work hard for local people in Headingley, and are leading the community response over the future of the Leeds Girls High site and the Headingley Primary School building. " I look forward to working with them and my successor as we continue to stand up for people in Headingley, an area I have been proud to represent as Councillor and now as MP."
