GOVERNMENT GP TARGETS HAVE PRODUCED INFLEXIBLE, ANNOYING APPOINTMENT SYSTEM: MULHOLLAND

12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 24th Aug 2005

YouGov, one of the UK's most accurate pollster, released a new poll yesterday revealing that the majority of those questioned in the North of England were unable to see a GP within 48 hours.

Commenting on the YouGov poll published in yesterday's Telegraph, Greg Mulholland, Member of Parliament for Leeds North West, said:

"The survey shows just how flawed the Government's own official figures are. 44% of those questioned in the North of England, including those in Leeds, have been unable to see a GP within the 48 hours promised by the government.

"The Government's targets are inflexible and do not allow family doctors the freedom they need to develop appointment systems that suit the needs of their patients."
