NEW EXECUTION DATE SET

12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 17th Oct 2006

A new date for the execution of Leeds man Mirza Tahir Hussain has been set for November 1st, in just two weeks time.

Commenting Greg Mulholland, the family's constituency MP, said:

"Clearly the news that a new date of execution has been set is extremely shocking and disheartening, and I know that Mirza Tahir's family in Leeds are very distraught.

"It is difficult to see how what is supposed to be a forward thinking country can proceed with such a barbaric and inhumane action.

"President Musharraf must recognise what a travesty of justice this would be, and that only he has the power to stop it.

"I and everyone who has campaigned for Mirza Tahir will not stop, if anything we will try even harder. We will do absolutely everything that it is in our power to do to stop this unjust and atrocious sentence from being carried out."
