NEW REPORT SHOWS TOO MANY SCHOOLS ARE FALLING BEHIND - MULHOLLAND

A new report by the Chief Inspector of Schools, Christine Gilbert, has said that 1 in 8 secondary schools have been judged 'inadequate' and a third have been judged no better than 'satisfactory', and has condemned the wideness of the gap between the best and worse state schools as "unacceptable".

Commenting Liberal Democrat Schools Spokesperson Greg Mulholland MP said:

"It is extremely concerning that this report has highlighted such problems in our schools system.

"It proves that far must be done to address standards in schools, too many schools are clearly falling behind.

"Time and money needs to be invested in turning these situations around, with more training for existing teachers and greater incentives to become a headteacher

"What parents want is very simple - good, local schools for their children. It is clear that considerable work needs to be done to make this a reality".
