MULHOLLAND CALLS UPON GOVERNMENT TO EXPLAIN LEEDS HOSPITAL DECISION
12.00.00am GMT Mon 19th Mar 2007
Leeds MP, Greg Mulholland, has written an urgent letter to the Health Secretary Patricia Hewitt today, calling upon her to explain why plans for a new Children and Maternity Hospital in Leeds have now been shelved, despite former health secretary John Reid giving the go ahead for the Hospital in 2004.
Commenting Mr Mulholland said:
"The go ahead for the new Hospital was finally granted after a long and hard fought campaign to improve services in Leeds.
"For the Government to now shelve these plans, perhaps forever, is a real slap in the face local people, and will surely seriously undermine public confidence in the way the health service is being run in Leeds."
"I have written an urgent letter to the Health Secretary to call upon her to explain this decision, and why the Government thinks that it can ignore the promises it has made to the people of Leeds."
