Commenting on the news that Sir Menzies Campbell has resigned as leader of the Liberal Democrats, Leeds MP Greg Mulholland said:

"Ming Campbell has led the party with dignity and commitment over the last year and a half. "He gave us experience when we needed it, but now it is time for a new leader who can lead with energy and passion.

"The Liberal Democrats have never been more important in British politics and I am very excited about a dynamic leader who will reach out and communicate our vision of a fair, free and green society to the British people."
